I have always had labradors and after I started actively hunting I found that as a shooter I absolutely needed a working dog. I was so enthralled with training my dogs that I put hunting and shooting on the backburner. I focused more and more on Hunting Dog Working Tests and later on Field Trials until it became my lifelong passion.
I have been involved in the training of working Labradors and competitions for over 25 years. During that time I have been fortunate enough to win Field Trials with labradors. I have also bred and trained Field Trial champions and competed in the UK Retriever Championship.Having recently retired from being the owner and operator of a large and very active kennel, I now spend most of my time with my wife Paula training our own dogs. I am currently a Kennel Club Retriever Panel A Judge, and acommittee member of the International Gundog League (IGL) and the UK Labrador Retriever Club. I am also now a member of the UK Kennel Club Field Trials Council and UK Kennel Club Field Trials Liaison Council. |

We asked our judges three questions:
RS: What is the key success at a WT competition? RS: What is the best advice you would give someone training for WT? RS: What is the key competence for a dog when doing WT? |
